Cammell Laird and its Supply Chain Helps to Support the Brunswick Youth & Community Centre with a new Electric Minibus.

Cammell Laird has continued its support of The Brunswick Youth and Community Centre by donating money raised through The Michael Marshall Memorial Golf Day, which was hosted in September 2024.

It has enabled the centre to purchase an electric minibus which showcases Cammell Laird’s logo as well as another small electric van the Brunswick has acquired.

The Brunswick Youth & Community Centre is a charity supporting young people in the Bootle area. Its mission is to create positive change and make a meaningful difference within the local community. The aims of the centre are to provide the youth of Bootle and Sefton area with educational and leisure facilities to help them grow to full maturity as members of society.

The newly acquired electric minibus is expected to deliver annual savings of approximately £2,500 to the youth club.

These savings will be achieved through the elimination of road tax, reduced fuel costs—thanks to the centre's solar panels generating electricity for charging—and minimal servicing expenses. Additionally, transitioning from an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle to an electric one aligns with the centre's commitment to reducing carbon emissions.

The second vehicle is a small van, a Renault Kangoo, which is used to deliver hampers and similar support, and white goods between people within the local community

Mike Hill, Managing Director of Cammell Laird, recently visited The Brunswick Youth & Community Centre to tour the facility and view the new electric vehicles. Accompanying him – pictured L-R included Emma Parker-Goff, Marketing Director, Tim Marshall, President Brunswick Youth and Community Centre, Siobhan McCormick Brunswick Youth and Community Centre, Keith Lloyd Brunswick Youth and Community Centre Manager and Brian Roberts.

Mike said: “Cammell Laird has a long standing relationship with The Brunswick and we were delighted to make this donation to allow the centre to purchase a new electric mini bus.

“Cammell Laird and its supply chain is committed to supporting its local community and we hope that our donation will positively impact the lives of young local people for years to come.

"This latest donation is also inline with Cammell Laird and the wider APCL's sustainability policy, which includes reducing carbon emissions and making a positive environmental impact."

Keith Lloyd, Brunswick Youth and Community Centre Manager, said: “The generous donation we received from Cammell Laird raised through the Michael Marshall Memorial Golf Day was a major contribution towards the purchase of a new electric minibus.

“Purchasing an electric minibus will allow us to organise and operate our events and activities for the benefit of our young people and the wider community in a sustainable way, both locally and for the day and overnight trips we run.

“We very much appreciate the enthusiastic support Cammell Laird has given over the years and continues to give to the Brunny and we look forward to continuing our relationship with them into the future.”

Cammell Laird supports both The Brunswick Youth and Community Centre and The Hive Youth Zone in Birkenhead - two key youth organisations a which provide vital support, educational and leisure services and facilities to children and young people aged from 7 to 19 years within the Liverpool City Region.
